The Hodges Award recognizes a chapter or organization that excels in coalition building and programming that exemplifies support for intellectual freedom. Gerald Hodges, who joined ALA staff in 1989, was a charter member of the ALA Legacy Society and willed a portion of his estate to support ALA's intellectual freedom efforts.
